College Library & Library Rules
The Central Library of Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya was established in the year 1981 with the very inception of the college itself. The main objective of the library is to procure, organize, preserve and disseminate information in all fields of knowledge to serve the institutional, curricular, research and instructional requirements as well as the cultural needs of the college community. At present the number of books in the library is above 15,000 along with more than 15 journals and 10 daily newspapers. The Library is meant for only the bonafied students of the college. Two books are issued to each student. Students are entitled to keep books for fifteen days only from the date of issue and books must be returned to the library at the end of the period failing which fine of 1 rupee for first 7 days and 2 rupees after that are imposed. The students and teachers can avail the Library facility from 9am to 5pm on all working days. The Central library also provides E-resource facilities to the user community. More than 6,000 e-journals and 97,000 books are available now through UGC Inflibnet N-List Consortia. The users of the library especially the faculty members are also taking the benefits of some other services provided by Inflibnet like Shodh Gangotri, Shodh Ganga etc. The library has also been adopting the benefit of using different Open Access Resources like Directory of Open Access Journal, Open Access Journal Search Engine, NISCAIR Online Periodical Repository etc.
At present the library is providing various services like Document Circulation Service, Reference service, Current Awareness Service, Internet/Digital resources facility, Reprographic and Printing Service, Consultancy Service, Book Bank Service, User orientation etc. The library is automated by using the software SOUL 2.0. At present, the house keeping operations like cataloguing, circulation, bar coding and access to library catalogue through OPAC have been introduced. The Central Library has its own Institutional Repository also. The JKM Institutional Repository is a repository of JKM’s scholarship allowing digital works- text, audio-visual, data and more to be securely stored and reliably shared. The users can access these digital resources through an IP address provided by the librarian. The library staffs are trying to better organize the library to make it more and more user friendly and to create a healthy learning environment within the library.
Library Card Students need to furnish their fee receipt and the College Identity Card to obtained the library card. The library offers yearly membership, which is renewed subject to annual clearance. The library card is nontransferable.
Departmental Library To add new features to the College, each and every Department has developed their respective Departmental Libraries with a view to acquaint the students with new good books and journals which are normally not available in the college library. The required fund for this purpose is raised from the fund provided by the authority and the donations of the Teachers & Students of the respective departments.
